I'm an American who may not be your typical American. I have been fascinated by Asian culture since I was a little boy. I think it all started when I would stay up late and watch the original Godzilla (Gojira) and Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. I was intrigued with how different Japanese culture was from mine and wanted to learn more. With my father being in the military, I had the opportunity to travel the world and meet all sorts of people. But we never made it to Asia. I went to a fairly large university after high school and was amazed at the cultural diversity there. I made a point of meeting and getting to know students from all around the world. I even had a Japanese girlfriend until she graduated and moved home to Osaka. But life intruded on my desire to learn. I graduated, started my career, got married, got divorced, relocated, changed careers. The next thing I knew 25 years had gone by. But I have never lost my love of Asian culture. I love photography. I have had a camera since I was 6 years old. I'm not a professional. I tried it once and it became a job and in the end I lost the love for the art. I rediscovered the love when I was asked to teach a photography class at a local college. I enjoy hiking in the mountains, flying kites at the beach, cooking, reading, movies and taking long drives to nowhere in particular.
