I grew up on a small island in South Louisiana and spent most of my life in Hawaii — thirteen years of it. Island living teaches you a certain truth early: the family you choose often matters more than the one you were born into. That's not a throwaway line for me. It's the center of how I love and how I build a life. Here's what a good day looks like. We point the car toward somewhere scenic with no particular schedule, find a trail, and hike until we reach a waterfall. I'll stand at the base of it longer than is strictly reasonable — moving water genuinely quiets something in me. On the drive home the music depends entirely on the mood: some stretches call for Tool with the windows down, others for Enya and comfortable silence. I contain multitudes, and I promise you'll never quite predict which one you're getting. I cook — really cook — and it's one of my favorite ways to love people. Give me a kitchen and I'll move between Asian, Italian, Mexican, and Cajun depending on what the evening wants. I love a proper night of fine dining, but I love a long, unhurried dinner I made even more, especially with the right person across the table. I garden. I fish. And every single year, Alaska pulls me back like a tide I've stopped trying to resist. By nature I'm jovial — my quiet daily mission is to make the people around me laugh. I'm also, without apology, a hopeful romantic. I'm at the stage of life where I know exactly what I'm building toward: a forever home, made largely by hand, somewhere quiet and beautiful. I keep looking hard at far northeast Washington, and even harder at Sitka, Alaska. Picture an Akita stretched out by the fire, a garden out back, and a partner I'd only ever leave to go to work — purely so we'd have more hours to come home to. I'll admit a soft spot for a curious, engineering kind of mind — someone who likes to understand how things fit together, whether that's a bridge, a recipe, or a relationship. If you're an educated woman who's equal parts thoughtful and playful, warm and a little adventurous, I suspect we'd have a lot to talk about. One honest logistical note: I'm in Newport, Rhode Island through April, finishing up a project. After that, where I put down roots is genuinely an open question — and the right person is a very large part of that answer. That's not me being unmoored; it's me leaving real room for a life built together rather than one you're simply invited into. What I'm hoping to find: a best friend first. Someone to trade waterfalls and home-cooked meals and quiet Sunday mornings with, and eventually to build that home alongside.
